A legend within the towing industry, Elsbeth raised and homeschooled her five children on the various tugs upon which she sailed. She was one of the first women in the industry to obtain her license and stood watch, cooked and cleaned, chipped and painted, managed the crew, cared for her children and still managed to find time to play the piano on board. She spent nearly thirty years of her career at sea. Elsbeth now lives on the island of Dominica in a one room house in the rainforest. She tutors children in the village, takes the bus down to town on Sundays to play the organ for the church and cultivates her acre of fruit trees. She always had faith in Dominique and Rachel’s abilities when the idea of starting a tugboat company out of nothing seemed a near impossibility. She has continuously provided moral support, financial support and invaluable advice to TradeWinds Towing.
